Says goodbye to Barcelona despite having the signing on track, Laporta can't believe it
The footballer, a new Bayern player, had been ruled out by Real Madrid a few months ago
Bayern Munich has beaten FC Barcelona in the race for Jonathan Tah. The German club has officially announced the signing of the center-back, who played for Bayer Leverkusen until the recent 2024/25 season. With a contract valid until June 30, the German arrives at Allianz Arena as a free agent, with no transfer fee paid.
"I'm very happy to be at FC Bayern. I want to take on responsibility and work hard every day to achieve success as a team and win many titles together", said the footballer at his presentation. Jonathan Tah has signed a four-season contract with Bayern Munich, where he'll wear number 4 until 2029, when he'll be 33 years old.

Jonathan Tah will play the Club World Cup with Bayern
With this signing, the team led by Vincent Kompany strengthens its defense ahead of the Club World Cup, which kicks off on June 15. The signing of Jonathan Tah provides a key boost to the defensive line, an area that has faced difficulties throughout the season.
Like Real Madrid, Bayern Munich has also wanted to take advantage of the transfer window to strengthen. The German club will compete with the Madrid side in the United States for the Club World Cup trophy.
Barça couldn't sign Jonathan Tah
Barcelona showed great interest in signing Jonathan Tah and reached a verbal agreement with the German defender. However, the contract renewal of Ronald Araújo changed the club's priorities, putting on hold a deal that seemed almost certain. In addition, financial fair play restrictions continue to limit the options of the Catalan side.

Although Jonathan Tah waited expectantly for Barça to finalize their moves, these never materialized, which allowed Bayern Munich to gain ground as a real option. The Germans acted decisively to close the signing and ultimately took the prize.
Real Madrid also entered the race for Tah when Xabi Alonso took over as coach of the first team. However, the Madrid side quickly ruled out signing the footballer due to his already advanced age.
