After Mbappé and Mastantuono, Florentino can pull off a hat trick of 'thefts' from PSG with this one
The white executives do not lose sight of the player's contract
Real Madrid has revived one of the debates that seemed to be solved for the coming seasons: the goalkeeper position. Thibaut Courtois's injury, although not a truly serious ailment, is indeed the fourth one the Belgian goalkeeper has suffered so far this season. That's why some have started to doubt his contract renewal.
The veteran goalkeeper's contract ends in the summer of 2026 with Real Madrid, and the Valdebebas offices would be considering extending that deal until 2027 or 2028. Everything will depend on the future performance of the Bree-born goalkeeper, as well as the physical strength he shows during the next soccer season.

If Thibaut Courtois doesn't manage to show enough to extend his contract with Real Madrid, the club's executives already have a "plan B". That alternative doesn't involve Andriy Lunin who, having renewed until 2030 less than a year ago, is still waiting for his chance to establish himself as the first team's starting goalkeeper.
The club's sporting management would have focused their attention on a top-level goalkeeper, whose contract ends at the same time as Thibaut Courtois's, and who could arrive as a free agent to the team. The terms of his signing would be truly favorable and everything suggests that it would be a high-quality signing... to add to the generational change that Santiago Bernabéu locker room has been experiencing in recent years.
Elite replacement
The footballer that Real Madrid would have added to their shortlist is none other than Gianluigi Donnarumma. Information from La Gazzetta dello Sport would have made it clear that several top European soccer clubs are keeping an eye on the "99's" contract situation at PSG. After all, he is a top-level player who would arrive without requiring a transfer fee.
Given this, the competition Real Madrid would face to secure Donnarumma's services includes teams like Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, and AC Milan. Juventus has also shown great interest in signing the Italian goalkeeper, although there are still no talks regarding his future.

In any case, Real Madrid doesn't seem willing to give up in their attempt to sign this PSG player. Especially if that transfer ends up happening on a free, one of the preferred methods in the Valdebebas offices. Meanwhile, it would confirm another blow to the entity presided over by Nasser Al-Khelaïfi.
Gianluigi Donnarumma's departure would be the continuation of a saga that began with the "Mbappé case". Despite its length, stretching over seven years, the club finally secured the services of the Bondy forward. Franco Mastantuono is also on that list of failed signings, as he didn't hesitate to answer Real Madrid's call even though he practically had a deal with the French capital squad.
