Álvaro Carreras is about to officially become a new Real Madrid player. The club and Benfica have reached a full agreement for the transfer of the 21-year-old left-back. Only one step remains to close the deal: Manchester United's response.

According to Defensa Central, Madrid will pay €50 million ($50 million), but will do so in several installments. The release clause won't be paid in one go, as was desired at first. That formula has unlocked negotiations with the Portuguese club, which until recently refused to negotiate.

Waiting for Manchester United

The last obstacle is Manchester United. The "red devils" keep a buy-back option for Carreras and, until they make an official statement, the signing can't be announced. Meanwhile, the club is optimistic.

The player's camp also conveys calm. Nobody expects United to match the deal. Everything suggests that Real Madrid will be able to make the signing official in the coming hours or, at the latest, before the end of the week.
