The alternative to Carreras if Benfica refuses to negotiate, Real Madrid gives the OK

The young star Real Madrid has its eye on in case it doesn't manage to sign Álvaro Carreras

After the signings of Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold, Real Madrid's priority was to sign Álvaro Carreras. The Benfica left-back, who was once a Real Madrid youth player, was extremely excited to return to Valdebebas. With Real Madrid and Carreras reaching an agreement, Benfica ended up stopping this deal.

Looking to secure a good income from Carreras's departure, Benfica prevented the player from joining Real Madrid before the Club World Cup. Although Real Madrid doesn't plan to leave Carreras stranded, the club already has another plan in case Benfica tries to be clever. If Carreras's signing doesn't go through, Real Madrid will go after Myles Lewis-Skelly.

The young Arsenal left-back impressed everyone with his performance in his debut season. Although Arsenal is extremely calm about his contract renewal, this could change if Benfica keeps Álvaro Carreras.

Real Madrid's plan B

Throughout the season, the left-back position was one of the most inconsistent for Real Madrid. Ferland Mendy, who had one of his best campaigns at the club, returned to constant injuries and poor performance. This situation was an opportunity for Fran García, who unfortunately didn't live up to expectations.

Given the need to strengthen this position, Real Madrid saw Álvaro Carreras as the ideal player to be the reference at left-back. However, due to ongoing issues with Benfica, Myles Lewis-Skelly could take Carreras's place.

At just 18 years old, Myles managed to surprise everyone with a performance worthy of a very experienced player. With a contract until 2026, Real Madrid could make an offer for him after its participation in the Club World Cup ends.

Preparations by Benfica

Even though Real Madrid fully trusts it can sign Álvaro Carreras, everything depends on Benfica. If the Portuguese club keeps causing problems with this deal, Real Madrid won't hesitate for a minute to leave it empty-handed.
