Álvaro Carreras, the Alternative to Fran García and Ferland Mendy that Gains Significant Momentum

The Spanish full-back is currently on loan at Benfica

One of the major debates Real Madrid has encountered after the elimination against Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals is about the pending signings. After all the problems recorded in the defensive line, it seems clear that one of the focuses of the sports management should be on the last area of the field.

While there is constant talk about the right-back, considering Trent Alexander-Arnold, and the discussion about the new center-back for the white club, it is also necessary to sign a left-back. In this regard, multiple rumors have emerged about the incorporation of young talents on the left side like Miguel Gutiérrez or Álvaro Carreras: nothing is defined.

But the Benfica footballer, always behind the current Girona player, remains the 'hidden gem' to be the new left-back for Real Madrid starting this summer. His excellent performance, especially on the offensive side, has allowed him to add many important goals to the Portuguese squad... not only because Carreras himself is the one pushing the ball into the opponent's net.

His records of goals and assists this season have allowed him to generate nine goals in 46 matches, a pace that far exceeds Fran García's offensive contributions this season. The '20' from Castilla-La Mancha, despite his strong point being the attack, has barely achieved four assists in 40 matches so far this season.

He Is a Great Candidate

Something similar happens with Ferland Mendy. The '23' Frenchman, injured during this last stretch of the season, seems to have lost almost all the defensive reliability that made him one of the essentials for Carlo Ancelotti. The excessive number of defeats and goals conceded by the merengue sports discipline, along with the ease of opponents to weave attacking plays through his area, call for a replacement.

The defensive capabilities of Álvaro Carreras do not go unnoticed either. In the current league campaign, Real Madrid has achieved eleven clean sheets, while Benfica has gone more than twelve matches without seeing the ball in their own net. Apart from Miguel Gutiérrez, the '3' of the red team continues to gain points to join Real Madrid.

It won't be easy to recover this player from La Fábrica. After his time in the white academy, Álvaro Carreras left for Manchester United as a free agent... but his team changes didn't end there, as he had to embark on a journey to Portugal because he didn't have a place in the first team of the red devils.

Now Manchester United, considering his excellent performance, would be reconsidering his future. Also, Real Madrid, in urgent need of adding a left-back who can improve the performances, both defensively and offensively, of two players who have been disappointing this season.
