Ancelotti Announces Who Will Take the Penalties after the Mistakes at Anfield and San Mamés
Mbappé has missed two crucial penalties and the Italian coach has declared who will take responsibility for taking them
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has spoken out following the 2-1 defeat at San Mamés. One of the central themes was the responsibility of the penalties, after Kylian Mbappé's mistake that could have changed the course of the match.
In a press conference, Ancelotti clarified the situation:
" Mbappé is probably not at his best, but we have to give him time to adapt. When Vini is there, he takes the penalties and he does it well. There are three who take the penalties: Mbappé, Bellingham and Vinícius ."
The coach didn't rule out that the responsibility could vary depending on the moment and the player in best form.
The Penalty at San Mamés
Mbappé had a chance to equalize 1-1 in the 68th minute, but his shot was saved . This mistake adds to the one he made at Anfield against Liverpool, where he also failed from the eleven meters in an important match.
However, Ancelotti seems to be backing the Frenchman . Although there could be a change, the Italian stressed the need to trust his big players.
The match against Athletic
Real Madrid missed a great chance to take three points at San Mamés. Alex Berenguer put Athletic ahead in the 53rd minute, but Jude Bellingham equalized in the 78th.
Two minutes later, a mistake in Fede Valverde's passing ended with Guruzeta scoring the final 2-1.
With this result, Real Madrid lose their chances of catching up with Barça in the table, although they have a game pending against Valencia.
Complicated moment for Mbappé
The Frenchman has had a pressuring start to the season . His mistakes from the penalty spot have raised doubts , but Ancelotti is confident in his ability to overcome this period.
Meanwhile, Vinícius and Bellingham seem to be the most solid options for the next releases.
Real Madrid will have to recover quickly. The decision of who will take the penalties could be key in a season where every detail counts. Ancelotti's faith in Mbappé, however, remains firm.
It will soon be seen whether the change in fielders brings better results to the white team.
