Ancelotti Makes a Splash after Davies's non-Transfer, Unexpected Move

Real Madrid aimed to sign Alphonso Davies for the next season, but they backed out. After almost 2 years working on the transfer, the white club decided not to do it. The player's agent was listening to offers from other clubs after giving the "ok" to the Meringue club, and that didn't sit well at all. 

The Canadian winger was of great interest to Madrid because they saw him as a market opportunity that couldn't be missed. Alphonso Davies is the left winger with the best qualities, and the white club wanted to incorporate him into the project. However,  in the end, they've prioritized Real Madrid and its values above all.

On one hand, Ancelotti is calm because he's always backed Ferland Mendy, and his continuity could have been at risk with Davies's arrival. Since it didn't happen, the Italian's idea is for him to continue being his starting left winger, and tomorrow he'll start against Salzburg. This is confirmed by diario AS. 

An expert in defense

That's how Mendy has always been seen, who when at his best level always performs very well and is key for the team. Last season and in 2021-2022, he was essential for the team to end up winning the Liga and the Champions. No team managed to get past him, despite having players with great dribbling and breakthrough skills.

The French full-back never considered leaving Real Madrid at any time. Despite the Davies rumors, his goal was always to keep winning titles at the best team in the world. For that reason, he renewed his contract until 2027, despite having clubs interested in Saudi Arabia. 

 

Must change

This season Mendy is far from his level. If he wants to keep his starting position assured, he must greatly improve his game in the coming weeks. The team is going to face very challenging matches and needs his best version to maintain defensive balance.

Ancelotti, the coaching staff, and the physical trainers are doing everything possible to bring back the best Mendy. The same goes for the player himself, who is training at his maximum to help the team.
