Ancelotti Says Bye to Real Madrid: It's Announced when He'll Leave the Club

The coach has a contract until 2026, however, he may have decided to leave the bench

Real Madrid learned on Monday morning about its next opponent in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals. It will be CD Leganés, a team that will host the current LaLiga leader at Butarque.

However, the news of the Copa pairing took a back seat within minutes. Suddenly, Onda Cero announced Carlo Ancelotti's decision to leave Real Madrid's bench at the end of the season.

"Carlo Ancelotti has decided not to continue at Real Madrid starting next summer", the media outlet reports.

He still has a valid contract with Real Madrid

Carlo Ancelotti renewed with Real Madrid in 2023, just when there was talk about his move to Brazil. The Italian still has a contract with the club until 2026, but everything indicates he will say goodbye to the bench once the season ends.

"No matter what happens, Ancelotti won't stay on Real Madrid's bench next season", stated Edu Pidal, a journalist from Onda Cero.

The Italian, aware that each season brings even more demands, wants to finish in the best way possible. Even if Real Madrid wins more titles this season, the decision is more than made and doesn't seem likely to change.

No matter what happens, Carlo Ancelotti will leave Real Madrid as the most successful coach in the club's history. The Italian, who has proven to be a team player, is already one of the biggest names in the institution's history.

Who will take over?

Although it's not certain, everything points to Xabi Alonso being Carlo Ancelotti's replacement on the bench. The current coach of Bayer Leverkusen is the top favorite, even though his circle doesn't take it for granted.

Xabi Alonso won't make a decision for several weeks. He's happy in Germany and focused on his club, but he doesn't hide his desire to take a step forward. Even if he doesn't talk about other teams, there's no greater challenge for the coach from Tolosa than taking the reins of Real Madrid.
