Ancelotti's Response About Julián Álvarez's Penalty: 'Soccer...'
Carlo Ancelotti's Message in the Press Conference After the Canceled Penalty on Julián Álvarez
Ancelotti appeared in the press room at the Metropolitano to analyze Real Madrid's qualification for the Champions League quarterfinals. After eliminating Atlético in a tense penalty shootout, the white team is already in the next phase of the top European competition.
The Italian coach highlighted his team's mental strength and how they managed to stay calm in decisive moments. "It was a very difficult match, Atlético played with a lot of intensity, but our defense was solid and we managed to stay firm", commented Carlo Ancelotti.

The coach also emphasized the importance of experience in these types of situations. "It's crucial to have players who know how to handle pressure, and in that sense, we've shown great maturity", he added.
Ancelotti did not hide his satisfaction with advancing to the quarterfinals, but he also made it clear that the team must keep working, as each knockout round in the Champions is more demanding.
"I have no idea what can make the difference in the shootout. You have to choose the calmest ones. (...) Atlético leaves this competition with their heads held high because they played at their best level", he explained.
"I experienced it calmly. When it's a lottery or you flip the coin, you wait and it came up heads", he explained.
The Opinion on Julián Álvarez's Penalty
"I think the referees had already detected it in the VAR when we realized it. I didn't notice this. It seems to me that he does touch it with his left foot afterward when I saw it", commented Carlo Ancelotti.

Additionally, the Real Madrid coach praised Eduardo Camavinga's match. "It was his best version in the most complicated match. In the last few games, his level dropped a bit, but today he contributed a lot to the team", he explained.
Finally, Carlo Ancelotti was asked about the penalty Vinícius missed in the second half. "It was decided that Vini Jr would take it and unfortunately he missed it. He wasn't going to take one in the shootout, but he asked me to change him because he was very tired", he concluded.
