Like Luka Doncic, it's now official and he's leaving for the NBA in the next few hours.

The Real Madrid star who has left the team to pursue the NBA dream

Just as Real Madrid dominates the soccer scene, it also does so in basketball. Always presenting itself as the team to beat in every competition, the NBA has always kept an eye on the team. This has led to talents like Luka Doncic and, now, Hugo Gonzalez fulfilling the dream of playing in the United States.

The latter, after an excellent season with Real Madrid, will now join the Boston Celtics. The most decorated franchise in the entire NBA with 18 championships to its name has secured the services of the young forward. After following the player's progress throughout the season, the announcement became official shortly after the end of the Liga Endesa.

Following in the footsteps of the now superstar Luka Doncic, Hugo will arrive at a competition where he will be able to fully unleash his talent. The NBA, once again, has benefited from the talent that Real Madrid has been developing for several decades.

Following a dream

At just 19 years old, Hugo González Peña is one of the greatest talents in basketball. After joining Real Madrid's youth academy in 2018, Hugo quickly rose through all the ranks. With a talent that demanded he reach professional competitions as soon as possible, Hugo did not disappoint when his opportunity finally arrived.

This season alone, Hugo averaged 2.1 pts., 1.4 rebounds, and 1.2 efficiency in the EuroLeague (1.9 puntos, 1.3 rebotes y 1.2 de valoración). Additionally, in the Liga Endesa, which he won with Real Madrid, Hugo recorded 4.9 pts., 2.4 rebounds, and 4.2 efficiency (4.5 puntos, 2.2 rebotes y 4.2 de valoración), placing him among the best.

Selected 28th in the NBA draft, Hugo will wear that same number for his new chapter in the United States. After being champion of the Adidas Next Generation Tournament of the EuroLeague in 2023 and 2024, Hugo is preparing for his first NBA ring.

The presence of Real Madrid

Despite leaving a huge gap at Real Madrid, the club has shown happiness with Hugo's future. With an entire career ahead of him, Hugo has the talent and confidence to make history in the NBA before returning to the club where he was born.
