Asencio apologizes to Xabi Alonso and Real Madrid, his statement: 'I'm not...'

The player's public statement has surprised more than one Madridist

Real Madrid is getting closer and closer to reaching the knockout stages of the 2025 Club World Cup. The draw against Al-Hilal and the victory against Mexican side Pachuca have brought Xabi Alonso's players significantly closer to that goal. However, they've also left one player, from whom much more was desired individually, under heavy scrutiny.

Raúl Asencio's performance hasn't been the desired one for many. In the World Cup debut, the Canarian "35" left at halftime, replaced after suffering cramps: Xabi Alonso didn't want those discomforts to lead to a more serious injury. In his second match, against Mexican side Pachuca, he only played a few minutes.

Indeed, he was sent off at Bank of America Stadium in the 6th minute after a tussle with Salomón Rondón. The Canarian "35" put his teammates in a tough spot, but fortunately, they solved it by delivering one of their best matches, following their coach's instructions to the letter.

In any case, Raúl Asencio himself seems to have realized that the situation isn't as favorable as many indicated at the start of this 2025 Club World Cup. That's why he reportedly sent a message through social media, clearly directed at his coach and the fans of the Madrid squad.

He has admitted it himself

In that official statement from the young Canarian center-back, there's a truly striking confession: "It's not being the desired start to the competition". Despite the adversities recorded in this return to the field, Raúl Asencio assures that "I have no doubt I'll turn the situation around".

To achieve that goal, the Real Madrid player knows that "It's time to work even harder to keep growing. Thank you all for your messages", the Madrid defender states. His presence in the first team is much more important than it seems, given the current shortage of center-backs.

Xabi Alonso seems to have decided that the center-back pairing at Real Madrid will be made up of Dean Huijsen, a brand-new signing this summer, and Raúl Asencio himself. The Madrid "24" has delivered the desired results so far, but Raúl Asencio still hasn't lived up to the desired level for many Madrid fans.

Fortunately, there's plenty of room for maneuver. Raúl Asencio is aware of that situation and knows that he has Xabi Alonso's full support to change the course of his sporting performance this season. With the goal set, all that's left is to recover the good feelings he showed not so long ago under the tactical leadership of Carlo Ancelotti.
