Asencio Reveals a Serious Problem in RFEF After His Call-Up with the National Team

What Is Happening in the Federation Comes to Light Thanks to Asencio

During this international break, Raúl Asencio received great joy with his draft to the Spanish national team. The call was well-deserved due to the great performance of the Madrid defender this season. However, it has also revealed the serious problem of the RFEF.

Madrid fans had Asencio on their radar due to his performances with Castilla, which left a good impression. That's why Ancelotti didn't hesitate to choose him to replace Militao after his injury. But it seems that the Federation didn't have him as closely monitored as they should have, despite his talent.

Indeed, Asencio may make his debut this Sunday after finally being drafted for the match. He can play with the national team without having played in lower categories before. In 2022, he only had a couple of training sessions with the Under-19 team.

A neglect that highlights the great problem the RFEF currently has with talent detection. It's not something that happens only with the Madrid player, as Bryan Zaragoza experienced something similar. It seems they only have eyes for the young players of a specific club and not for the rest.

Asencio's Neglect and the RFEF's Decisions That Have Caused Serious Consequences

It's not the first time the RFEF's decisions regarding young players who deserve more have been questioned. As we mentioned, Asencio had already been standing out, but they had forgotten about him. This has happened more times and has sometimes had much worse consequences.

The Spanish Federation made not a single move to contact Brahim. They knew he was hesitating between playing for Spain or Morocco, and they let him slip away. The same happened with Garnacho or Nico Paz, to whom they paid little attention, and in the end, they lost them.

The RFEF seems not to be doing a good job of tracking young national talents. It doesn't make sense for Asencio or Bryan Zaragoza to make a direct leap to the national team. When they don't lose great footballers by ignoring them and not even calling them.
