Benfica secures Carreras's replacement and 'pushes' the Spaniard toward Real Madrid

Carreras's signing for Real Madrid closer after Benfica's move

Real Madrid have Álvaro Carreras as the left-back they want for next season. Negotiations with Benfica began a few days ago, although they've become complicated. However, that doesn't mean Madrid have ruled out the arrival of the Spaniard.

On the contrary, because it seems Benfica already take for granted that Carreras won't stay with their team. At least that's what Fabrizio Romano has announced with the move they've made. They've already secured Álvaro's replacement, which puts him one step away from signing for Real Madrid.

According to information from the Italian journalist, Benfica have closed a deal with Samuel Dahl. He's a 22-year-old player belonging to Roma whose position is left-back. This season he's been on loan with the Portuguese side and they've now secured his services on a permanent basis.

The fact that they've made this move makes it very clear that it brings Carreras closer to Real Madrid. They already have his replacement, also thinking long-term with another young full-back. Now all that's left is for the clubs to reach an agreement so his signing for Madrid can be finalized.

Negotiations for Álvaro Carreras have stalled

Last week, many media outlets took for granted Álvaro Carreras's signing for Real Madrid. They'd reached an agreement with the player and only needed to negotiate with Benfica. It seemed it was going to be a matter of days, but time has passed and nothing official has been done.

Benfica keep insisting they want to receive the €50 million release clause the Spanish left-back has. Meanwhile, Real Madrid would be trying to lower that price now, complementing it with bonuses. That's where the negotiation has stalled.

The Portuguese also want to take advantage of the "urgency" Real Madrid have to finalize his signing. Madrid wanted Carreras to already be at the Club World Cup as an additional reinforcement. However, it's important to remember Benfica are also competing in this tournament and could delay everything.
