Paco González's Brutal Accusation About Spanish Soccer, Madrid, and Refereeing

'It's curious that when Madrid attacks the referees, the clubs attack Madrid,' the journalist highlighted the double standard of LaLiga clubs.

Paco González, director of Tiempo de Juego, spoke about the criticisms of Real Madrid's statement. "It's curious that when Madrid attacks the referees, the clubs attack Madrid. When Laporta said it was a disgrace what González Fuertes did in Getafe, no club got involved with him. Journalists did, because we get involved with everyone. With Madrid, with Laporta, with Simeone... But clubs only do it when it's Madrid. Why? Maybe because everyone thinks it's wrong. Or because many clubs are managed by Tebas, who can respond to Madrid."

The match ended with a 1-0 defeat for the whites. Carlos Romero scored the decisive goal in a controversial play with Mbappé. With this result, Atlético moved to within one point of the lead and Barcelona to four.

Madrid protested strongly against Muñiz Ruiz's refereeing. First, through its official television. Then, with an official statement on Monday.

In it, they demanded a complete overhaul of the refereeing system. "The events have exceeded any margin of human error or interpretation. What happened at the RCDE Stadium is the culmination of a completely discredited system. The decisions against Real Madrid have reached a level of manipulation that can no longer be ignored".

Atlético de Madrid's Reaction

Atlético replied to the whites' statement with a series of tweets. They accused Madrid of "using its official television, once again, to pressure the referees". Additionally, they posted a message to the RAE asking about the nuances of words like  "pressure," "coerce," or "intimidate".
