Cheaper than Carreras: he'd join Real Madrid for €25M if Benfica don't give in
Real Madrid would have another interesting option if it doesn't manage to sign Carreras
Real Madrid is determined to sign Álvaro Carreras as a reinforcement for the left-back position. The Benfica footballer is eager to return to what was once his home. That has been his dream since he left La Fábrica to move to England; he always aimed to play for Madrid's first team.
There has been much talk that Madrid has other options in the market in case the Carreras option falls through. We have no evidence of that; we are assured that the only target is the Madrid youth product and that the deal will be completed. However, other media and countries keep talking about other options.
"AC Milan wants €25 million for Theo Hernández, but Atlético de Madrid is only willing to pay €20 million. The deal is off," says Rudy Galetti, an Italian journalist. In Italy, they also suggest that the Frenchman is Real Madrid's plan B.
He would be delighted
Since leaving Real Madrid, Theo Hernández has always wanted to return. He was very happy at the best club in the world, despite his Atlético past. In fact, he even mocked Atlético with some chants, despite having come through its youth academy.
No one at the white club is considering his return, even though they acknowledge that he is a very high-level player. Theo will turn 28 in October and doesn't fit into the project that Real Madrid is currently building. They want to sign a young, Spanish, Madridist left-back.

Not long now
After some very intense weeks, the signing of Álvaro Carreras is getting closer and closer. It will happen after the Club World Cup he is playing with Benfica. It remains to be seen if he will play any minutes, but the Portuguese club already knows that he will leave as soon as the competition ends.
The youngster has made sacrifices to fulfill his dream and has even tried to mediate with Benfica to facilitate the agreement. However, the Portuguese club, influenced by several internal problems, broke its word and refused to sell him and to let him play the World Cup with Madrid.
