The only ways Xabi Alonso has to secure the signing of a top-level reinforcement for Real Madrid
Before the end of this summer transfer window, Real Madrid hopes to make one more signing. While the midfield needs reinforcements, the backline is the position that needs strengthening the most. This has led the club, according to Defensa Central, to consider signing Ibrahima Konaté before the end of this window.
In light of this, Madrid has made it clear that the conditions for signing him must be that the player is good, affordable, and can deliver immediate results. Of these three conditions, the second could be the most problematic. This is because Liverpool, aware of Konaté's imminent departure, won't listen to offers for less than €40 million.
Since he is in the final year of his contract, the English club knows it can't demand the €60 million valuation according to Transfermarkt. Even so, €40 million remains a figure that Real Madrid must analyze before the end of this window.
The last signing of Real Madrid
The last few seasons haven't been very kind to most of Real Madrid's center-backs. After suffering several injuries, the signing of Dean Huijsen this summer was a great relief for the club. Despite this, Xabi Alonso has serious doubts about Alaba, Rüdiger, Asencio, and Militao, with the latter suffering two serious injuries in the last two seasons.
Looking to have a solid backline, Xabi has set his sights on Ibrahima Konaté for his quality and experience. Signed by Liverpool in 2021, the Frenchman is a key piece for Arne Slot. The 3,372 minutes played during last season are proof of his importance.
Although Liverpool has tried to renew his contract, Konaté has rejected all offers. This has led the club to seek some income rather than let the player leave for free. After suffering Trent's departure under similar circumstances, the team isn't interested in going through the same situation again.
A renewed backline
At 26 years old, Konaté is the ideal signing to strengthen Real Madrid's defense. He is experienced but still at an age where he can keep performing at the highest level, and his signing would be a great move. The only thing that would need to be solved is, clearly, his transfer fee.
