Courtois warns after Xabi Alonso's debut, he didn't like Real Madrid: 'I don't know...'

The Belgian goalkeeper from Real Madrid called for patience after Xabi Alonso's first match

Thibaut Courtois spoke to the media after Real Madrid's first match in the Club World Cup. The goalkeeper analyzed the draw against Al-Hilal, which competed at all times and made things very difficult for the Whites.

"In the first half we played too slowly and they were more dangerous, but we found the goal. Then we committed a rather silly penalty and that's when they equalized. In the second half we fixed what we had to fix and we played faster, more agile", Courtois explained to "Real Madrid TV".

"We created danger and it couldn't be. It was a shame that we missed the penalty, but if we keep the level from the second half, it's going to help us in the next matches. The second half was better and that's the level we need to keep", the Belgian goalkeeper commented.

Asks for patience after Xabi Alonso's debut

Among other things, Thibaut Courtois asked Madridists for a bit of patience, since Xabi Alonso has had fewer than ten training sessions with the team. "We're still playing with Ancelotti's automatisms. That can't change in just four days", the goalkeeper explained.

Meanwhile, the goalkeeper spoke about the first match for Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen with Real Madrid. "It's our first match together and it's not easy, but they did well and if there's anything to correct, we'll do it in the videos. Their first match was good", he added.

Sends encouragement to Fede Valverde after missed penalty

"We have to look to add passes and not always want to attack because sometimes it's better to keep possession and open up spaces. If you go too fast, it's harder to pass. We did that better in the second half", Thibaut Courtois replied.

The Belgian goalkeeper is clear that Real Madrid's play will change for the better in the future, but nothing is immediate.

Finally, Thibaut Courtois wanted to encourage Fede Valverde after the missed penalty. "Fede has a very hard and strong shot, the goalkeeper went down early and that's why he saved it. It's a shame, but Fede has to keep his head up and keep going", he concluded.
