Carlos Sainz's Curious Proposal if He were President of Real Madrid
The plan Real Madrid might have implemented if Carlos Sainz were president
One of the most desired positions in this sport is being the president of Real Madrid. While Florentino Pérez has solidified his role in this position since 2009, Carlos Sainz came close to the presidency. During the 2006 elections, the rally champion offered several interesting proposals to be elected as the new president of the club.
One of the most interesting was the support he intended to provide to the youth academy. Sainz's intention was to ensure that the first team would end up being nurtured by its young talent. To achieve this, the driver planned to assign a personal tutor to ensure the personal and athletic development of all the young players.
A curious proposal that, unfortunately for him, was not enough to win the elections that year. While his desire to continue supporting Madrid remains, Florentino's re-election until 2029 has closed the doors to the presidency for him.
Sainz's plan
One of the biggest admirers of Real Madrid is, evidently, Carlos Sainz. Despite his achievements being in the world of motorsport, the Spaniard is a Madrid fan at heart. He has demonstrated this on multiple occasions, showing his intention to improve the club through the proposals he offered in the elections where he ran.
His focus on the youth academy was very prominent, especially after the era of "Los Galácticos." In addition to this, his other proposals included the appointment of a single General Manager and Coach and the creation of an Internal Code.
Moreover, some of his proposals were later implemented by Florentino Pérez himself. Such is the case with the improvement of Santiago Bernabéu Stadium and its exploitation. These reforms highlight Sainz's noble intentions for the team.
A presidency that could not be
Despite the proposals receiving considerable support, Sainz lost to Ramón Calderón. A situation that ended up displeasing him but didn't distance him from his intentions to help Real Madrid, even with Florentino Pérez present.
