Xabi Alonso 'Recommends' Transfering a Central Defender Who Played for Barça

The former Barcelona central defender that Xabi Alonso has strongly recommended to strengthen the defense

Real Madrid's defense has been one of the most talked-about topics this season. With Militão's injury, the team has been in constant search of a new central defender to strengthen the defense.  In an effort to support the club, Xabi Alonso has come forward with a central defender suggestion who has been standing out in France.

Mika Faye is the player the Spanish coach has widely recommended for Real Madrid. Despite his past in Barcelona's youth academy, the player has emerged as a solid option for the defense. However, his potential transfer depends on the stance taken by Stade Rennes, his current team.

While Bayer Leverkusen had contacts with the player, his transfer hasn't been finalized. Even so, the presence of the Germans could end up accelerating the operation that Real Madrid might carry out for Faye.

A jewel for the defense

At just 20 years old, Mika Faye has begun to stand out this season with Stade Rennes. Playing 665 minutes this season, the Senegalese central defender has gradually earned the trust of his team. However, despite it being just his first season with the French club, his future could change by next summer.

Given the evident need for a center-back, Real Madrid could proceed with the operation for his services. Despite Bayer Leverkusen's interest, Xabi's recommendation has made the plan he has in mind clear.

With the Spanish coach having the possibility of returning to Valdebebas next summer, Faye would be his first major signing. However, the player's contract until 2028 and the relevance he has been gaining could complicate his departure.

Real Madrid's decision

Despite Xabi's recommendation, the decision regarding Faye's signing rests entirely with Real Madrid. With plenty of time ahead, the club could study the player's progress to determine his transfer. In addition to his abilities as a center-back, his capacity to play as a left-back makes him a more attractive player.
