Edu Aguirre delivers a monumental blow to Real Madrid and warns Xabi Alonso: 'This year'

Reactions to Madrid's defeat in the Clásico are piling up quickly

Real Madrid suffers a significant defeat in the fourth and final Clásico of the season, with almost no chance to compete for the LaLiga leadership with three matches remaining. That circumstance has provoked all kinds of comments and analyses like the one made by Edu Aguirre on "El Chiringuito de Jugones." The panelist reveals that "I will never be ashamed of being a Madrid fan, but I understand the anger and the way of speaking that we have all felt at some point".

But that doesn't stop him from making a really critical and harsh analysis of what happened at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium. "I think that Real Madrid going up 0-2 was circumstantial and coincidental: two runs, a Barça mistake, and that's it", the Madrid panelist points out. "It's a Barça blunder, but Madrid hasn't earned the 0-2 lead", he clarifies.

Edu Aguirre doesn't miss the opportunity to comment that "the team has fallen apart because I think this is about having hunger. And what was seen today is what has happened all season, Barça are young and hungry because they hadn't won anything last year", he points out. In this context, "they have come out every match to eat the grass, and Madrid are stars without hunger", Edu Aguirre notes, going further to talk about the coach: Carlo Ancelotti.

The Reggiolo coach "has taken the fall. I think it's good for everyone for a new coach to come in, with new energy, good for the locker room, even good for Ancelotti himself. But the players have failed Ancelotti this season because Ancelotti has allowed them a lot", Edu Aguirre reveals about the current situation of Real Madrid.

Looking to the future, the journalist reveals his great hope:  "that the players know and keep showing as they have done for many years what it means to represent the Real Madrid badge. Because they haven't done it this year", the panelist of "El Chiringuito de Jugones" warns. He also calls for more commitment and intensity, making it clear that it should apply not only in the Clásicos but in all matches of the season.

In this context, Edu Aguirre points out that Real Madrid is currently a team "without hunger", an analysis that Xabi Alonso might consider for the next season. The current Bayer Leverkusen coach is still processing his departure from the werkself team and a possible arrival at Santiago Bernabéu locker room... which he should carefully consider to improve the results shown this season from day one.

One of the major "musts" for Real Madrid that Xabi Alonso should change is the intensity and the desire to compete. Edu Aguirre makes a critical comparison with FC Barcelona, perhaps marking the model to follow for the new merengue coach: the "stars without hunger" should change to improve the club.

Xabi Alonso seems to have a lot of work ahead if he takes over as the new Real Madrid coach this summer. Only three matches remain in the current league campaign, time that the Basque coach could use to deepen his analysis of Real Madrid... and find solutions for all the problems that the first team has shown during the 24/25 season.
