Florentino asks FIFA for a favor: it has to do with Barça and the Club World Cup

The major change for the next Club World Cup that Florentino Pérez wants to implement

With Chelsea being crowned world champion, the first edition of the Club World Cup has been a complete success. The matches have been exciting from start to finish, with clubs like Real Madrid leaving a good impression. According to what we know at Defensa Central, this has led Florentino Pérez to request that the tournament be held every 2 years.

A proposal that, at first, was rejected by FIFA President Gianni Infantino. Labeling this proposal as excessive, this hasn't stopped Florentino Pérez with an initiative he believes will be a complete success. If the World Cup is held every 2 years, teams like Barcelona would be immensely benefited.

The blaugrana club didn't manage to qualify for this World Cup due to its poor performance in the Champions League. Playing in the Europa League twice, Barcelona didn't manage to show anything to be in the World Cup. This situation could change if Florentino succeeds.

A change to improve

Since the beginning of the Club World Cup, Florentino Pérez didn't hesitate to express his excitement for the tournament. Assuring that the World Cup would be a complete success, the tournament itself proved that Real Madrid's President was right. Thousands of people around the world gathered to witness a competition that continues to be talked about.

Given the resounding success, Florentino Pérez has seen enormous potential in holding the World Cup every 2 years. A sensible proposal that, even so, must be analyzed carefully. Initially, the players could be harmed by the number of matches.

Infantino's rejection is also a problem, although the FIFA President hasn't closed himself off to implementing changes in the tournament. One of the most striking is expanding the number of participating teams, with the World Cup possibly being played by 48 teams.

FIFA's decision

With the season about to begin, this proposal will take time to be finalized. Even so, Florentino Pérez trusts he'll have the support of several clubs that, after seeing the success of this first World Cup, want to participate in the tournament.
