Florentino Cancels a Madrid Transfer that Seemed a Done for 2025: I Like It a Lot
Nico Paz seemed like a sure reinforcement for summer, but it seems that his return won't happen after his first season
Nico Paz's return to Real Madrid seemed like a matter of time. However, the directorate has put the brakes on the deal. According to Guillermo Rai, a journalist from The Athletic, the club highly values the Argentine midfielder, but considers that now is not the right time for his return.
Nico Paz, currently at Como in the Italian Serie A, has shone since leaving Madrid. With outstanding performances and the backing of figures such as Lionel Messi, the young talent has shown his potential.
At Real Madrid, both Florentino Pérez and Carlo Ancelotti recognize his quality. “He is very popular at the club and also with the coaching staff,” said Rai.
No room in the team
Despite the interest, the main obstacle to his return is the lack of space in the team. With established players like Dani Ceballos and Luka Modric in midfield, Nico wouldn't become a center stage.
Real Madrid have buyback clauses in 2025, 2026 and 2027. This gives them room to re-evaluate their situation in the future, depending on the needs of the team.
From the board, the decision seems to be based on prioritizing Nico Paz's development. They consider that having regular minutes at Como is more beneficial than returning to be a substitute at Madrid.
Guillermo Rai added: “The board likes him a lot, but they don’t think he has a place at the moment.” This approach allows the youngster to continue to grow in an environment where he can exploit his talent.
The future of Nico Paz
Real Madrid remain in constant contact with the player's entourage. Florentino Pérez sees him as an important player for the coming years. However, they prefer to wait for the right moment for his return.
With buyback options guaranteed, the club is in no rush. The commitment to young talents such as Nico Paz demonstrates Madrid's long-term strategic vision.
Meanwhile, the Argentine will continue to excel in Italy, with his sights set on a future return to Santiago Bernabéu.
