Florentino, determined: the signing Real Madrid is going to make and it's not a playmaker
The operation Real Madrid needs for this summer has been chosen by Florentino Pérez
Throughout the entire season, there was talk about the lack of a playmaking midfielder at Real Madrid. With Toni Kroos no longer available, Real Madrid focused on searching for his possible replacement. Zubimendi is one of the names most closely linked to the club, although his signing has been put on hold following Florentino's decision.
After witnessing Real Madrid's debut in the Club World Cup, Florentino realized which signing needs to be made. While the midfield must be strengthened, the left back position has become the priority. Given Fran García's poor performance, it became clear that the player can't be Real Madrid's starter.

This leaves Álvaro Carreras as Real Madrid's main target for this summer transfer window. Although Real Madrid tried to finalize his signing before the World Cup, Benfica prevented this in a deal that upset Florentino Pérez.
Florentino Pérez's objective
Once again affected by constant injuries, Ferland Mendy wasn't at his best throughout the season. Missing the World Cup due to his injury in the Copa del Rey final, Fran García was left as the team's only alternative. An option that, after the Club World Cup debut, doesn't inspire much confidence.
Making several mistakes and having no impact in the match, Florentino Pérez is certain about signing Álvaro Carreras. Benfica's 22-year-old left back has shown his ability to contribute both in attack and defense.

A quality that, given the changes Xabi Alonso is looking to make, is highly valued by Real Madrid. Although his signing couldn't be finalized before the World Cup, Florentino is certain that Carreras will be a new Real Madrid player.
Real Madrid's need
Having been a Real Madrid youth player from 2017 to 2020, Álvaro Carreras wouldn't have adaptation problems. The fact that his signing has taken precedence over that of a playmaker is clear proof of how important he is for Real Madrid.
