Florentino gives Xabi the green light: he'll sign a midfielder with an unlikely condition
Florentino gives the OK to Xabi, will sign a midfielder under an unlikely condition
With Modrić's signing for AC Milan now official, Real Madrid is left with fewer and fewer midfielders. Needing to strengthen this position, Florentino Pérez has agreed to make the signing Xabi Alonso so strongly desires. However, before making any move, Florentino will ask about Rodri.
The Manchester City player is, according to Defensa Central, someone Florentino Pérez likes. Since he has great experience and keeps a high level despite his injury, Rodri remains one of the best in his position. Without the intention of spending more than €100 million on a midfielder, Rodri is the exception for Florentino.
Even so, his contract until 2027 could prevent Rodri from joining Real Madrid, at least during this transfer window. Manchester City, after the poor season it had last year, is looking to return to its best level now that Rodri is fully recovered.
Florentino Pérez's dream
Triumphant at Manchester City and with the Spanish national team, Rodri is a very top-level player. His vision of the game, ability to break lines with a pass, and excellent defensive work have made him a unique player. Since 2019 (the year he arrived at City), Rodri has grown to be recognized with individual awards.

His qualities fit the profile Real Madrid so badly needs for next season. While Xabi Alonso is betting on the youth of the squad, Florentino considers it necessary to have a player seasoned at the elite level.
With neither Kroos nor Modrić in the squad anymore, Rodri could be the new leader of Real Madrid's midfield. Although it's very likely City won't look to let go of one of its most important pillars, Florentino trusts he can fulfill his dream.
The only option considered
With several weeks left before the end of the transfer window, Rodri's signing for Real Madrid has a chance of being completed. However, given the price City will demand to allow the Spaniard's departure, Real Madrid will first have to finalize some departures.
