Florentino stops Álvaro Carreras's signing, deal secured for next week

Real Madrid's president changes the plans regarding this highly desired signing

Real Madrid has secured one of the three minimum signings requested by Xabi Alonso to accept taking over the tactical command of the team for the 2025 Club World Cup. The arrival of Dean Huijsen only leaves the dilemma of the full-backs, a debate that the executives led by Florentino Pérez would have quite advanced.

Especially on the right side, where Trent Alexander-Arnold is configured as the number one candidate to cover that position in just a few weeks. Despite the closeness of positions between the still "66" of Liverpool and the white club, there is still no official announcement to put an end to the rumors. The priority signing for the left-back, however, is not as advanced.

Especially after Florentino Pérez himself has decided to stop all operations that would end with Álvaro Carreras as a member of Santiago Bernabéu locker room from this summer. The president of Real Madrid considers that there is an essential circumstance to make that decision... which the white club itself usually considers an unwritten rule.

Because in the Valdebebas offices they acknowledge that the 24/25 season ended two weeks ago, when Carlo Ancelotti's pupils were defeated in the Montjuïc Clásico. That lost match made it very difficult to fight for the leadership of a League that FC Barcelona ended up winning the following matchday, thanks to their victory against Espanyol.

But Benfica still has titles at stake. The Madrid board is not unaware of that circumstance and would have given the direct order to halt any contact, with prior notice to the player and his environment. The goal is to make Álvaro Carreras arrive in top form and fully focused on the final of the Taça de Portugal this Sunday, May 25.

Benfica is playing for the chance to win a title similar to the Copa del Rey in Portuguese soccer against Sporting Lisbon. Real Madrid understands the importance of this final, especially against one of the great rivals of "The Eagles," so they will suspend the signing of Álvaro Carreras until that moment.

But starting next Sunday, May 25, when the current league campaign in Spanish soccer also ends, from the Valdebebas offices they will not hesitate to resume contacts. After all, Carreras himself is one of the footballers who seem key in Xabi Alonso's future tactical scheme... because the Tolosa coach would have requested his incorporation.

Real Madrid applies a maxim strictly followed in the club: first the season ends and then the necessary signings are undertaken. In the capital of Spain, there is a green light to try to sign, as seen with the "Huijsen case," but not so in the Portuguese sports discipline of Álvaro Carreras. That's why Real Madrid will wait for the conclusion of the Taça de Portugal final to resume their interest in the young Ferrol native.
