Former Real Madrid Employee Who's Got It in for Florentino Discovers America

The harsh words Florentino Pérez has received from a former employee regarding Asencio's situation

"Asencio's situation happened because everyone else fell through and there was no one else to put in." These were the controversial statements from Manolo Romero, former Real Madrid scout who spent two decades with the team. Through these words, Manolo made it clear that Asencio's debut and breakthrough were due to the club's necessity.

"In the youth academy, when someone leaves, they have more opportunities in other clubs because they're more versatile to play in different positions," he added. This series of comments clearly shows the attack Manolo is making against Real Madrid.

"Madrid always congratulated us for the players because of the money that came in from the transfers of academy players," were his last words. While the attack is evident, so is the reason Asencio has played, with the club considering the youth academy.

The attack on Real Madrid

Real Madrid's youth academy has always shone for the number of stars it produces every year. Asencio is the most recent example of this, with the central defender exceeding all expectations. Perfectly meeting all objectives, the 21-year-old Spaniard has demonstrated the level of the Meringue youth academy.

Despite this, Manolo's statements have sought to tarnish the reputation of the academy and, of course, Real Madrid. Labeling the academy simply as a source of income for the club. However, Asencio is just one example of several academy players who have managed to shine in the first team.

Carvajal, Nacho, or Lucas Vázquez are academy players who have established themselves as legends of the team. While it's true that some academy players end up transfer with other clubs, the situation Manolo has presented is nonexistent.

Support for the youth academy

Despite these words, Real Madrid is fully aware of the great process it maintains with its youth academy. Asencio's breakthrough could be the beginning of the arrival of a new group of academy players who share the goal of succeeding at the club.
