Fran García, face to face with Xabi Alonso, surprises in training: 'I'm leaving...'

The unexpected words with which Fran García has revealed to Xabi Alonso his plans for next season

On August 19, Santiago Bernabéu stadium is set to kick off a new season for Real Madrid. In light of this, Fran García has spoken with Xabi Alonso about his situation in the squad. "I'm going to give my all to be the starter," were his words to make his intentions clear to the coach.

Fran García was, for several weeks, on the list of possible departures from Real Madrid for this summer transfer window. Mendy's stay and the imminent arrival of Carreras left no room for the Manchego full-back. However, the Club World Cup completely changed Fran's role within the team.

According to Defensa Central, Xabi Alonso ended up delighted with Fran's level. Throughout the tournament, the full-back managed to show his quality and talent, which earned him a starting spot. Although, for the imminent season, this role has been put into question, Fran is willing to fight to earn it again.

Fran García's determination

Trained in Real Madrid's youth academy since 2013, Fran García quickly rose through the ranks until reaching Castilla in 2018. For two seasons, Fran showed a high level that earned him the honor of making his debut with the first team. However, with no room in the first-team squad, Fran left for Rayo Vallecano in 2020.

Returning to Real Madrid in 2023 at Ancelotti's request, Fran never managed to establish himself as a starter. Even with Mendy's constant injuries, Fran wasn't a reliable full-back. This changed with Xabi Alonso's arrival on the bench and his new playing system.

With a more positional style of soccer and an emphasis on playing out from the back, Fran became a key player for Xabi. However, with the €50 million (50 millones de euros) that Real Madrid paid for Carreras, Fran has returned to the bench. As a younger full-back with more than one profile, Carreras is set to be the starter.

Fran's fight

Despite having had the chance to leave Real Madrid this summer, Fran has kept his commitment to the team. Even with the competition for a starting spot, his words to Xabi make it clear that Fran will fight until the end to be part of the starting eleven.
