Fran García settles his future, Xabi Alonso has spoken with him and there's a final outcome

The footballer already knows what the coach expects when the season starts

Xabi Alonso's conversations with his players, even though most of them are still making the most of their vacations, are happening quickly. The Tolosa manager is communicating, as we have been able to confirm at Defensa Central, what role each of them will have for the upcoming season.

One of the most surprising calls was received by Fran García. His strong performance during the Club World Cup, including an MVP award in the quarterfinals against Borussia Dortmund, was somewhat overshadowed by what happened against PSG. He has also lost almost all the chances he had to be a starter due to the arrival of Álvaro Carreras.

Despite those two adverse circumstances, Xabi Alonso has been very clear: he wants both him and Real Madrid's new "18" to be responsible for the left-back position. That decision means Fran García is now definitely moving away from the exit ramp of Santiago Bernabéu locker room, fully securing his future in the first team.

Meanwhile, he points to another footballer with whom he had competed for the position over the last two seasons: Ferland Mendy. Álvaro Carreras's position, as a newly signed player and with the status of an undisputed starter, is impossible to alter... at least without causing some murmurs in the Valdebebas offices about it.

Each one has their place

This is not Xabi Alonso's idea, so the Tolosa manager has had to decide the future of the players who already occupied that position previously. In view of what happened during the Club World Cup, as well as the history and projection of both footballers, Fran García is the one chosen to stay at Real Madrid.

Ferland Mendy appears to be headed for a departure over the next two summers. The French footballer has a contract with the white squad until the summer of 2027: the white bosses hope to move him out of the locker room before then with a simple offer, without too much money at stake. Even so, the French "23" could still be useful to the Reggiolo manager.

Especially if he can recover in time from his current injury to try to fit him into a three-center-back defense. Everything suggests that this system will become more common than it seems in the first team, so the merengue sporting management is still waiting for the final decision.

In general terms, Xabi Alonso understands that the two left-backs he will have in his usual competitive routine are Fran García, who beats Ferland Mendy in that competition... and the newly arrived Álvaro Carreras, a player who will start the 25/26 soccer season with all the confidence that comes with being an undisputed starter.
