Gonzalo was going to be Madrid's '9'… until yesterday: the reason for the change revealed

Endick will be Real Madrid's number 9, but everything indicated it would be Gonzalo. We'll explain the reason for the change

Gonzalo García  was supposed to be the new number 9 for Real Madrid. But no.

Alberto Pereiro has said this on his social media:

"Until yesterday, Madrid's idea, the one Gonzalo had and that NoKai reported and several media outlets confirmed, was the number 9 for Gonzalo García."

"An internal Madrid study strongly proved the success of the number 9 for Gonzalo in terms of sales. Now, everything has changed."

Endrick will be Real Madrid's number 9

This is how Arancha Rodríguez from Cope confirmed it: "As we explained on Tuesday on Partidazo de Cope, the choice of jersey number at Real Madrid is based on seniority. The entire squad was ahead of Gonzalo to choose the number 9. When Endrick chose the number 9, there was no option for Gonzalo to pick it."

So, Gonzalo is left without the number 9, which will go to Endrick.

Gonzalo renewed until 2030

What the homegrown Real Madrid striker has achieved is his contract renewal and promotion to the first team.

This is what Gonzalo said on his social media:  "The dream continues."

Real Madrid announced it like this yesterday on its official website:

"Real Madrid C. F. and Gonzalo García have agreed to extend our player's contract, which will keep him at the club for the next five seasons, until June 30, 2030."

"Gonzalo García joined Real Madrid in 2014 at just 10 years old and has been part of our youth academy for ten seasons, playing the last two with Castilla."

"He made his first team debut in November 2023, taking part in the league title won that season. In the last Club World Cup, he was the tournament's top scorer and FIFA included him in the ideal eleven. Last season, Gonzalo scored 25 goals with Castilla, becoming the top scorer in Primera Federación since its creation."

"With that number, he matched the best regular season record as Castilla's top scorer in the 21st century. In addition, he won the treble with Juvenil A in the 2022-2023 season (League, Copa del Rey, and Copa de Campeones) and the Copa del Rey in 2021-2022. Gonzalo will now be part of Real Madrid's first team."
