The major signing Porto has secured of a player who was wanted by Real Madrid
For several seasons now, Real Madrid has become a club focused on developing young talent. By signing several young prospects over the course of the seasons, some players haven't managed to reach Real Madrid. This was the case for a young Spaniard who, even with his confirmed return to Europe, won't join Real Madrid.
Gabri Veiga is the player who, for a long time, stayed on Real Madrid's radar. After having more than outstanding performances at Celta de Vigo, Veiga surprised everyone by agreeing to sign for Al-Ahli. His move to Arab soccer eliminated the interest of most European clubs, which only returned with Veiga's announcement.
With a clear intention to return to European soccer, Real Madrid showed great interest in acquiring his services. However, everything indicates that Porto will be his destination due to the progress they've made with Al-Ahli for this transfer.
Porto's theft
At 23 years old, Gabri Veiga was an extremely rare case of a young prospect deciding to leave for Arab soccer. With an entire career ahead of him, Veiga signed during the summer of 2023, which was a surprising move. Having come up through Celta de Vigo's youth academy from 2018 to 2022, great things were expected from Veiga.
By showing his talent as a midfielder, Real Madrid saw the Spaniard as the right player to strengthen this position. Although his desire to return to European soccer appeared to be an opportunity for Real Madrid, the club won't be able to complete his signing.
Although there are still details to be solved with his contract, his agreement with Porto is highly advanced. This situation, unfortunately, makes it clear that Veiga's transfer will have to be a deal for a few seasons in the future.

Although he could've been part of Real Madrid, Gabri Veiga keeps making questionable decisions with his career. Despite this, Real Madrid trust they'll find a reliable player to finally be able to strengthen their midfield.
