Pep joins a longevity clinic in Barcelona after overcoming chronic back pain with help from Mireia Illueca
Pep Guardiola has surprised with a new project far removed from soccer. This time, his focus is on health and wellness. Manchester City's coach has joined Monarka Clinic, a clinic located in the heart of Barcelona, specialized in longevity and personalized medicine.
The idea wasn't to be part of it from the beginning. Everything started, as he himself admits, because of a chronic back problem.
It was Dr. Ramón Cugat who recommended he visit Mireia Illueca, a neurosurgeon expert in pain and minimally invasive surgery. After months of unsuccessful treatments, she managed to relieve his pain. From there, a relationship of trust was born that today has turned into collaboration.

A project that goes beyond the physical
Guardiola isn't joining as a simple investor. Before being a partner, he defines himself as a patient. "The body is important, but what really rules is the mind," he says.
That's exactly what Monarka Clinic promotes: a comprehensive vision of personal care, covering both the physical and emotional aspects.
The clinic was born with a pioneering approach. It is based on longevity strategies, tailored nutrition, stress control, and regenerative treatments. "Here, it's not just about healing, but about learning to take care of yourself," Dr. Illueca explains.
The coach shares that in his career he learned to value rest, nutrition, and mental health. "It's not about living longer, but about living better," he says. At the clinic, he will be able to access innovative therapies such as hypoxia-hyperoxia, which improves the brain's response to stress.
From the field to wellness
The project also has the support of former footballers such as Thiago Alcántara and Jonathan Soriano. Elite sports, Guardiola explains, has been a school of health: learning to listen to the body, to regulate energy, and to respect rest.

He himself admits that he's not perfect. He enjoys a good wine or a bit of chocolate, but he knows that balance is the key.
For him, health is also about enjoying life. If it's under the Mediterranean sun, even better.
For now, he remains in Manchester, but he's already dreaming of returning to Barcelona. With more calm, better health, and less pain.
