Huijsen reveals his first memory as a Madridist: 'He was 9 years old'

The center-back reveals that his first memory is Sergio Ramos's goal against Atlético de Madrid in the Champions League final in Lisbon

Dean Huijsen has shared a very special anecdote. The defender recalls the moment that marked him as a Real Madrid supporter.

"Ramos's goal against Atlético in La Décima? I was 9 years old. It's my first memory of Madrid, a very special moment", the center-back confessed.

That final in Lisbon changed the lives of many children. For Huijsen, it was the beginning of a passion that he now experiences from within.

The Spanish-Dutch player spoke during Spain's training camp. The matches against Bulgaria and Türkiye set his international agenda.

Humility despite success

At 20 years old, Huijsen keeps his feet on the ground. "I still have a lot to prove," he acknowledges sincerely.

The defender doesn't consider himself a finished footballer. His arrival at Madrid hasn't changed that growth mindset.

"Each player takes their own steps," he explains. "I haven't become a footballer just by signing for Real Madrid."

His previous experiences have taught him a lot. Managing expectations is part of his maturity.

He shares the national team with great stars. "I play with very good footballers here and at Madrid," he admits.

His philosophy is clear: to enjoy and learn constantly. His youth allows him to absorb knowledge from the veterans.

Healthy rivalry with Barcelona

Getting along with Barcelona players doesn't cause problems. Lamine Yamal is an example of that professional relationship.

"When we all come together, we're here for Spain," Huijsen explains. Club colors are set aside temporarily.

During La Liga, the competition is different. "I'm going to want to beat him and he's going to want to beat me."

However, in the national team camp, camaraderie prevails. "There shouldn't be any bad blood for playing at rival clubs."

Captains Morata and Carvajal act as older brothers. Their experience is essential for the newcomers.

"They help me a lot," the center-back appreciates. "They're an example for young players like me."

Morata stands out especially for his leadership. "He's a true leader," Huijsen says about the forward.

Adaptation to Madrid

His first months in Valdebebas have been positive. The three initial wins in La Liga confirm the good work.

"We've taken a step forward," he analyzes. "The most important thing is the three points we've earned."

Xabi Alonso asks the entire squad for collective work. The team mentality makes the difference.

"I'm learning and enjoying it a lot," the defender celebrates. The Madrid experience exceeds his expectations.

The winning club demands an ambitious mentality. "My desire is to win everything I can," Huijsen confesses.

His career has given him exceptional coaches. Iraola, De la Fuente, and Alonso bring different styles.

The choice for Spain was always clear. His father initially preferred the Netherlands, but he respected the final decision.
