Iturralde González stirs things up talking about the unification of refereeing criteria: 'It's not...'

Iturralde González stirs up controversy again regarding the unification of refereeing criteria and is forceful

Controversy is always present in the world of soccer, even off the field, where opinions spark it. This time it comes from a familiar source, as is the case with Iturralde González, former first division referee. "A unification of refereeing criteria isn't possible, it's a lie," were his forceful words on the matter.

With this, he wants to imply that unification of criteria among all referees in Spain is something that can't happen. Each one has a different perspective and that's why it's simply impossible to have the same margin of error among all of them. Clearly, this has sparked a considerable amount of outrage from users who do see a possible unification.

He doesn't agree

The unification of criteria isn't about all referees speaking and thinking the same, but about having a similar standard. This, at least at the core, since there are many who consider certain things as fouls while others don't even think about it.

This has caused much debate about whether there should be a much stricter manual among referees to determine certain situations. However, in the end, perception and perspective play an essential role in referees' decisions and many times they don't justify their decisions. That's why the demand for a unification of criteria is something both fans and players demand.

However, this former referee doesn't agree at all, since he sees it as an unfeasible option considering the criteria of the refereeing body. That's why he expresses himself so bluntly and makes other comments such as: "We live in a society of absolute truths and what we need to do is teach about mistakes."

There's no room with him

Everything seems to indicate that from his point of view there's no room for improvement in this regard and that everything should proceed as we've already seen. Although we know perfectly well what his popularity is among fans and surely no one will pay attention to him.
