José Luis Sánchez Brings Out the Tanks and Destroys de Burgos: 'Who Thinks They Own Football'

The journalist and panelist had no doubts in his assessment of the Madrid classic.

The  discontent of Real Madrid with the refereeing body will not end as a result of the Madrid classic. Diego Pablo Simeone's players were able to take the lead thanks to the penalty goal scored by Julián Álvarez, an opportunity that came through a play by Tchouaméni. The French '14', acting as a center-back, allegedly stepped on Samuel Lino in the white area, prompting Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea to call César Soto Grado for an on-field review.

That decision triggered a conversation that hasn't solved the disagreement regarding what happened at Santiago Bernabéu stadium, focusing on de Burgos Bengoetxea himself. The decision to warn Soto Grado of a possible penalty hasn't gone unnoticed and has prompted the search for similar actions.

One of the first to find reason to complain about the performance of the Bilbao referee is José Luis Sánchez. The journalist and panelist of "El Chiringuito de Jugones," after the match at Santiago Bernabéu, made a post on his X account in which he attached an image. That capture corresponds to the Clásico played at the Spotify Camp Nou during the 19/20 season, when Clement Lenglet left his studs on Raphaël Varane's right thigh.

The now French defender of Atlético de Madrid, with a past at Barcelona, made an excessively forceful tackle on his compatriot at the exit of a corner. Not even Varane's own protests, showing the marks of Lenglet's studs, were enough for Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea to warn of a possible penalty on the French player.

Surprising Comparison

José Luis Sánchez has decided to recall that action by stating that the Basque referee "while being in the VAR didn't warn about this tackle". This comparison between the play of that Clásico and the one experienced in the last Madrid classic leaves a very clear statement: "Whoever believes in Spanish soccer, good luck". The controversy will continue and will leave more reasons for discontent among the white fans.

Real Madrid supporters were already looking with some suspicion at Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea due to several decisions like the one remembered by José Luis Sánchez, from several years ago. The controversies offered by the Bilbao-born referee every time he officiates a Real Madrid match accumulate faster than many would like.

José Luis Sánchez seems to be one of those people. The debates about the merengue replys in recent days, with the letter published last Monday and the videos about referees from the club's official television, complicate it. The resolution of the refereeing issue presents, for Real Madrid, a single solution: the complete regeneration of the group as soon as possible.

That proposal, which could find support considering that everyone complains about refereeing decisions, has encountered strong resistance from almost all LaLiga clubs. The surprise in the Valdebebas offices regarding this issue, however, won't make them give up on their goal.
