A journalist from Realmadrid TV explodes after the 2 red cards to Sevilla: 'Really...'

The journalist believes that the expulsions come when everything is decided, something that wouldn't have happened with something at stake

The Sevilla-Real Madrid match ended with controversy. Not because of the result (0-2), but because of the two red cards for the home team. A situation that ignited social media, especially among Madrid fans.

One of the most critical was David Álvarez, journalist, commentator, and presenter on Real Madrid TV. At the end of the match, he posted a message that quickly went viral.

"Do you really believe that, with something at stake, Sevilla would end up with 9 players against Madrid at home (two clear red cards)? 😏 The setup," he wrote on his official X account (formerly Twitter).

His comment suggests that, in his view, red cards only occur in matches without consequences in the standings.

The two red cards, clear according to the rules

The red cards came early. Badé was sent off in the 11th minute after bringing down Mbappé when he was going alone toward the goal. The VAR confirmed the decision.

In the second half, Isaac Romero was sent off in the 48th minute for a very hard tackle on Tchouaméni. It was also reviewed on the monitor by referee Busquets Ferrer.

Both actions comply with the rules. But the context of the match and the timing of the season sparked suspicions.

"The CTA polishes their statistics"

David Álvarez went further. After the final whistle, he made another even more direct reflection:

"0-2. A match that serves for Mbappé and Bellingham to improve their statistics and for the CTA to polish theirs with Madrid".

With these words, Álvarez implied that the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) might have taken advantage of an inconsequential match to statistically favor Real Madrid.

A message that divides

The journalist's comment caused a great debate. Some supported him, arguing that the "setup"—a common expression on RMTV—remains in effect. Others criticized him, defending the red cards as fair.

The truth is that, beyond the result, the controversy is present again. The role of the referees is once again the focus.

Real Madrid and Sevilla had nothing at stake. But the post-match analysis left headlines. In this case, one with a hint of accusation.

David Álvarez's opinion reflects a distrust that has long been present in the white environment. This time, it exploded again on social media.
