Juan Iglesias Reveals What Gavi, with His Mouth Covered, Said to Getafe Players
The '6' of FC Barcelona didn't have his best night during the visit to the Coliseum
One of the surprises of the current LaLiga gameday is Barcelona's stumble away from the Ciudad Condal. Hansi Flick's players need to quickly recover the ground lost during December with wins that still haven't reached their domestic scorer. The draw against Getafe reduces their chances of staying in the fight for the lead.
Besides this significant competitive setback for Barça team's aspirations, the spotlight of that game is on one of the most regular players: Pablo Gavi. FC Barcelona's '6' didn't have a memorable game at the Coliseum and even sparked a scuffle with several Getafe players. During that commotion, the midfielder had a gesture that hasn't gone unnoticed.
So much so that a Getafe player, Juan Iglesias, remembers it perfectly and didn't hesitate to reveal it to the media. In his interview for COPE, Getafe's right wigner makes it clear that "Gavi told us 'To the second division, to the second division'". This gesture is the same one Vinícius made during the game at Mestalla, but with different reactions.
However, Vinícius faced all kinds of criticism and negative opinions against his gesture. Meanwhile, Gavi's words seem to have gone unnoticed and haven't received the same judgment that was given to the Meringue player. Juan Iglesias also reveals what Gavi was doing while saying those words. "He was even covering his mouth; I told him that if he was so grown-up to say it, he should remove his hand".
Double standard?
FC Barcelona couldn't overcome Getafe's strong defensive resistance and adds another match without a victory at the Coliseum. Juan Iglesias is clear about the reason that led Gavi to act so contrary to the valors that are tirelessly preached from the Ciudad Condal. A victory-hungry FC Barcelona "never takes the 3 points from here".
"It's what annoys them the most," concludes Getafe's right-back. The controversy surrounding Gavi's gestures now has both versions and leaves the FC Barcelona player in a compromised position. Without securing the three points from their visit to the Coliseum, the culé team is at the mercy of the result Madrid achieves when they host Las Palmas this very afternoon.
As it stands, it's not the first time Gavi is at the center of controversy. His aggressiveness and toughness in playing, long criticized by merengue fans, has caused more than one clash between Gavi himself and opponents... as was seen in the match against Las Palmas.
Once again a player sends a team "to the second division," but the reactions are completely different. The spotlight is back on Vinícius, waiting to return to the team after serving his two-match suspension for the direct red card received at Mestalla.
