Juanfe Sanz reveals Medina Cantalejo's supposed 'ultimatum' to the referees

The journalist commented on the latest developments regarding the Technical Committee of Referees.

Last Monday was not just any day for Spanish referees. The Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) gathered the referees from First and Second divisions to discuss what happened over the past weekend.

In this case, Medina Cantalejo, the head of the CTA, didn't hesitate to express his frustration over the incidents that occurred in First and Second divisions during the last weekend. The president of the refereeing committee delivered a strong message demanding greater discipline among the referees.

Punishment for Muñiz Ruiz and Iglesias Villanueva

For now, the first decision is that several of those referees will be sidelined for a while. It is said that up to a dozen of them, including Muñiz Ruiz and Iglesias Villanueva, who were responsible for the scandal in Barcelona, will be affected.

According to the latest reports, the meeting between the CTA and the referees was not planned. In fact, it was the refereeing officials who urgently called for it due to what happened in the last matchday.

This week, there will also be a meeting in Madrid between teams, referees, and LaLiga with the aim of clarifying as many criteria as possible.

Juanfe Sanz's information about the referees

Juanfe Sanz, a journalist from 'El Chiringuito de Jugones' spoke about the current situation of referees in Spain. "Medina Cantalejo was the one who decided to organize a meeting this morning. He was very harsh and very forceful, especially with the referees who officiated the Espanyol - Real Madrid game", he commented.

"He was also tough with those from the Atlético - Mallorca or the Leganés - Rayo Vallecano games, but especially with the Mbappé play. The action has been labeled as shameful, and it has been suggested that referees need to be braver", he replied.

"There has been an ultimatum from Medina Cantalejo. He has asked them to be braver in making decisions. He knows that what happened next weekend is an international embarrassment", stated Juanfe Sanz.

"There could be more consequences than just a 'neverazo' like that of Muñiz Ruiz or Iglesias Villanueva. Medina Cantalejo could sideline a referee who makes such errors for a longer time. What I'm told is five games of 'nevera' for Muñiz Ruiz and Iglesias Villanueva", he concluded.
