Kroos's successor, a Madridist, who is about to be signed by Real Madrid
Real Madrid considers how it can sign a midfielder with a view to the future
Real Madrid has seen this season how Kroos's departure left a very difficult gap to fill. Nobody has been able to do it, and only Dani Ceballos has taken on those duties in the team. However, they're starting to look to the future, thinking about a good long-term successor.
One of the players who's started to gain momentum in recent hours is the Dutchman, Kees Smit. Reports say they're delighted with Real Madrid, a club he admires. They add that he'd be eager to arrive at Santiago Bernabéu, in an option that's gaining traction.

His great season at AZ Alkmaar hasn't caught the Merengue side off guard, as they've been following him closely. He's ended up proving it with a great Under-21 European Championship, where he was the MVP. These performances could bring him closer to playing for Real Madrid starting this summer.
Los Blancos are reconsidering his arrival, although they don't rule out that it could be for Castilla, the first reserve team. All of this is with the long term in mind and with the idea that he could take on the gap Kroos left a year ago. He'd have time to settle in and to become the German's replacement, which won't be easy.
Real Madrid considers his arrival but not for the first team
It's true that many have speculated that Kees Smit's signing would be to strengthen the first team. However, this isn't something that's expected after the Merengues' decision. It doesn't seem like they're going to go after reinforcements for the midfield.

Although there's been speculation about Zubimendi and Stiller, these options seem to be ruled out. They believe that with Mastantuono, they already have the best reinforcement for the midfield. At least the most promising player, and they don't plan to make any more signings.
That's for this summer and the first team, because for Castilla, the door is open. We'll see what ends up happening this summer. Smit has gained a lot of momentum, although he has a contract until 2028 with his current team.
