Leverkusen's boss throws a cold bucket of water on Real Madrid with Xabi Alonso

One of Real Madrid's major objectives for next season is Xabi Alonso. The Spanish coach has managed to establish himself as someone with the capabilities to reach the merengue bench. However, the recent statements by Simon Rolfes, Bayer Leverkusen's sporting director, have left a landscape full of doubts.

"There is a possibility that Xabi Alonso will stay at the club after this summer". Through this statement, Simon has made it clear that Xabi's departure is still not a certainty. Despite Real Madrid's evident interest in having the coach, Bayer Leverkusen is confident in keeping him for more seasons.

"He has a contract and is comfortable here", Simon added about the situation with Xabi Alonso.  This has shown that the coach's departure from Germany will be, at the very least, complicated for Real Madrid.

A Cold Blow

With the problems Real Madrid has faced this season, Ancelotti's era seems to be nearing its end. As his replacement, Xabi is the clear favorite to take charge of the merengue bench. The feats he achieved with Bayer Leverkusen, such as winning the Bundesliga undefeated, demonstrated his enormous quality in coaching.

Nevertheless, the recent statements by Simon Rolfes have been a tough blow to Real Madrid's plans. Preparing everything for the coach's arrival next summer, these words could delay or even cancel Xabi's return to Valdebebas.

Relying on his contract that goes beyond 2025, Bayer is fully confident in being able to keep Xabi as their coach. A similar situation occurs with Wirtz, whose operation by Real Madrid could become more complicated due to this.

Despite these words from Simon, Real Madrid is not known for giving up so easily. Aware that several months remain before summer arrives, the club will be focused on securing the return of one of its legends.
