Liverpool opens Real Madrid's door to Konaté, deal closed

Konaté's signing for Los Merengues may be closer than expected

Konaté's situation doesn't seem to be decided yet with two weeks left before the transfer window closes. For now, he hasn't accepted any of the contract renewal offers he's been presented with. It seems increasingly clear that his future lies in ending up at Real Madrid.

This is something Liverpool already assume, as they moved to finalize the signing of Giovani Leoni. He wouldn't be the only one since they also want to sign Marc Guéhi, the Crystal Palace center-back. In fact, they're keeping an eye on the latest moves, which seem to be working in their favor.

Both Newcastle and Tottenham had also set their sights on him and have made moves in recent days. They've submitted offers to try to sign Guéhi, but they haven't succeeded. The center-back has reportedly rejected all the offers he's received.

The reason is that he's waiting for Liverpool, which has become his main desired destination. He trusts the Reds will send Crystal Palace a sufficiently convincing offer. Both Konaté and Real Madrid are paying close attention to everything that happens.

Guéhi's signing will bring Konaté's signing closer to Real Madrid

Real Madrid are paying close attention to what's happening at Liverpool, especially if, in addition to Leoni, they sign Guéhi. If that happens, it could give the green light for Konaté to leave even this summer. They would sit down to negotiate with the white club to try to reach an agreement for his transfer.

Real Madrid's idea is to wait one more year and follow the same path as with Trent this year. In 2026, Konaté will be a free agent and could arrive at Bernabéu without a transfer fee (2026). This could make his signing easier since the Reds aren't going to make things easy.

However, if Guéhi arrives at Anfield, they could open the door for Konaté to leave. His destination would be Real Madrid, if they submit a convincing offer. If they decide to wait, they could see Chelsea make a move and complicate his arrival.
