The words with which Andriy Lunin has confirmed his future as a Real Madrid footballer
Andriy Lunin's role at Real Madrid has grown significantly over the past seasons. His outstanding performance during the 23/24 campaign made him the subject of great interest from several clubs. With several rumors about his possible departure, Lunin has stated: "I want to stay, I'm always happy at Real Madrid".
These are the words with which the Ukrainian goalkeeper confirms his stay as a Real Madrid player. Although he could be a key player at another team, Lunin is only focused on the Merengue club. This is a surprising commitment, especially considering that Thibaut Courtois is close to signing his contract renewal.
The Belgian goalkeeper remains the undisputed starter for Real Madrid for the coming seasons. Even so, Lunin remains firm in his goal to fight for more playing time. After being the starter for almost a full season, Lunin is looking to return to that role.
An exit ruled out
After Courtois's serious injury during the 23/24 season, Lunin was chosen to cover for the Belgian's absence. Playing 3,120 min. (2,850 min.), Lunin managed to keep 12 clean sheets and conceded only 32 goals. His great saves were key to winning such important titles as the Champions League.
Despite showing his worth, Courtois returned to being the undisputed starter after his recovery. This is a situation that, so far, doesn't seem to have affected Andriy Lunin. The Ukrainian, instead of complaining about this, has decided to train to become a key player again.
His contract renewal until 2030 was the first major sign of the decision he has made. Lunin, at least for this season, is not considering leaving Real Madrid. This is a stance that is a great help for a club that doesn't have a substitute at his level.
Security in goal
With Lunin deciding to stay, Real Madrid's goal is secured for several seasons. Despite Courtois's starting role, Lunin has shown he can meet expectations. In case of another absence from the Belgian, Lunin will be able to show his worth again.
