Madrid 'Cancels' Vini's contract renewal, Pedrerol agrees: 'It's not because of the World Cup'
The Brazilian is demanding the highest salary on the squad, and Florentino Pérez is not willing to do something crazy to renew his contract
Bombshell at Real Madrid. Josep Pedrerol revealed this Sunday on El Chiringuito de Jugones that the club has halted Vinicius Junior's contract renewal. The reason has nothing to do with his performance at the World Cup.
It's simply a matter of money: "The problem is financial. Florentino Pérez isn't going to go overboard to renew Vini," Pedrerol stated. The journalist was clear: the club isn't going to break its wage structure, not even for one of its most important footballers.
Vinicius asked for a very high figure
The renewal was on track, but when the numbers were put forward, everything changed. According to Pedrerol's information, Vinicius asked to earn more than Mbappé. At some points, even up to 30% more.
Real Madrid considers those figures unaffordable. The board understands that the Brazilian is a star, but it doesn't want to upset the balance.
"The club isn't going to allow one footballer to earn much more than the rest. Not even if it's Vini," Pedrerol said.
Saudi Arabia enters the scene
Vinicius has offers, especially from Saudi Arabia. Teams with a lot of money have put multi-million proposals on the table for him.
But Madrid isn't going to enter that war. According to sources close to the club, they aren't going to compete with that kind of offer, because they follow a different economic model: "Real Madrid respects Vinicius and values him. But it isn't going to break its internal finances for anyone," Pedrerol added.

The decision has been made. For now, the renewal is on hold and there's no date to resume it. Vinicius is still on vacation after the World Cup, but when he returns, the issue will be back on the table.
The club hopes that the footballer will reconsider his demands. If not, everything could get much more complicated. For now, there's no rupture, but there is a great distance and that, in soccer, is dangerous.
The Vinicius case has entered a new phase. A phase in which money rules and in which Real Madrid has made it clear that it isn't going to lose its head. Not for the World Cup, nor for Saudi Arabia.
