From Madrid to London, his transfer is set for a decision and could be finalized today.
Martin Zubimendi is in London to meet with Arsenal and finalize his signing today
Martín Zubimendi is one step away from becoming a new Arsenal player. The Real Sociedad midfielder has already traveled to London, where he will meet with the English club's board to finalize the last details of his transfer.
The deal, according to journalist David Ornstein in The Athletic, is very advanced and could become official in the next few hours. Arsenal has been working for some time to reach an agreement with the Spanish international and everything indicates that, now, the agreement is imminent.
Arteta wants him no matter what
Mikel Arteta has been key in the process. Arsenal's coach has been insisting on his signing for months. He considers Zubimendi ideal to strengthen the center of the midfield after Jorginho's move to Flamengo and the possible departure of Thomas Partey.
The English club is willing to pay the player's release clause: €60 million. This price hasn't been an obstacle to moving forward with negotiations, given the profile, the projection of the Donostia-born footballer (Donostia), and the financial muscle in Premier League clubs.

Real Madrid withdrew from the bidding
Zubimendi's name was also on Real Madrid's table, but in the end, the club decided not to pay the clause, even though Xabi Alonso was in favor of his signing. Bayern, which had shown some interest, also didn't get fully involved in the deal.
Everything has been left in Arsenal's hands, which has had the advantage for months and is now about to close a strategic signing for its project.

Zubimendi, 26 years old, has played 36 matches this season with Real Sociedad, scoring 2 goals and providing 2 assists. Beyond the numbers, he has been indispensable for Imanol Alguacil. The same has happened with Spain, taking over the midfield for the national team after Rodri's absence and now putting Luis de la Fuente in a difficult position with both available.
His tactical intelligence, ability to play under pressure, and vision have established him as one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe. Technically reliable, he always makes himself available to start the play from the back, even in risky areas.
A similar role awaits him in London, but at another competitive level. If everything goes according to plan, the transfer will be completed today. Arsenal is in a hurry, and Zubimendi is ready to swap Donosti for the Emirates.
