Maldini bets on a farewell to Real Madrid after Gonzalo's breakthrough: 'He must leave'

For the journalist, Rodrygo is the player who is left without a place after Gonzalo's performance, not Endrick

Gonzalo's explosion at the Club World Cup isn't going unnoticed. Real Madrid's forward has started in all three matches of the tournament and has made the most of every minute. So much so that there are already voices demanding a spot for him in the first team.

One of them is Julio Maldonado, better known as Maldini. On his YouTube channel, the journalist has praised the young academy player and has directly pointed to a player who, according to him, should pack his bags: Rodrygo.

"Rodrygo must leave"

Maldini was clear: "People say Gonzalo is a Joselu. Even though the profile isn't exactly the same, he does have that goal-scoring ability. With what he's showing, I think the one who must leave is Rodrygo," he stated in his post-match analysis.

The journalist believes that both Gonzalo and Endrick can have a place in the squad: "Endrick can also play on the right. He's very useful and Gonzalo has been in every match. That's why I think both of them fit."

Regarding his performance against Pachuca, Maldini highlighted his tactical intelligence. "He only played half a match because of Asencio's red card, but he was fantastic. He only had nine actions, but what stands out for me is his backheel to Fran García in the first goal," he commented.

That play was key for the match. A simple detail, but enough to confirm that Gonzalo has something special. Maldini insisted that he has already earned a place: "He must be Mbappé's backup forward in the first team."

From squad player to undisputed starter

Gonzalo's story in this tournament is striking. He was going to be just another academy player with few minutes, but Mbappé's gastroenteritis changed everything. He has started in all three matches and his level has surprised even the most skeptical.

Now, with the knockout stage approaching, nobody doubts his role in the team. Xabi Alonso trusts him, the locker room respects him, and the fans are starting to get excited.

The price to pay? According to Maldini, Rodrygo's future could be in jeopardy. "He must leave," he repeated. If Gonzalo keeps this up, he won't be the only one who thinks so.
