'Maldini' reveals what's going to happen with Raúl Asencio after the World Cup, it will be important
The well-known journalist spoke on his YouTube channel about the new role of the Madrid center-back
The story of Raúl Asencio at Real Madrid seemed very promising. The center-back, who came up through La Fábrica after Éder Militao's absence, managed to earn a spot in the first team thanks to strong performances. In fact, Carlo Ancelotti, who wasn't very inclined to choose academy players, gave him a place in the starting eleven.
However, the recent Club World Cup has been a real cold shower for both the player and the Madridist environment. Raúl Asencio started against Al-Hilal, but he conceded a penalty and was sent off in just two matches. From there, Xabi chose to leave him out of the starting eleven, but he had to return to replace Huijsen in the match against Paris Saint-Germain.

In the semifinals, with all eyes on him, Raúl Asencio made a glaring mistake in the opening minutes that resulted in the 1-0. That triggered a storm of criticism toward the player, whose competition for next season is fierce. He'll have to face Huijsen, Militao, Rüdiger, Alaba, and even players who aren't pure center-backs like Tchouaméni or Carvajal.
Maldini's opinion on Raúl Asencio and his new role at Real Madrid
Julio "Maldini" spoke about Raúl Asencio in one of his latest videos. The well-known journalist gave an assessment of the Canarian's recent matches and made it clear what he believes his role at Real Madrid will be.
"He was horrible at the Club World Cup. If we think about the Club World Cup, he's an overrated player, since there was talk that he could be a starter at Real Madrid next season. Certainly, he's not underrated.", he commented.

"I'd wait a little longer, but he has shown he's a center-back who isn't up to being a regular starter at Real Madrid. In fact, Real Madrid have signed Huijsen and they've signed him for a reason. Real Madrid are looking for another center-back and they're looking for one for a reason.", explained "Maldini".
"I think he'll be a center-back who, if he stays many years at Madrid, will play many matches and will have some important ones. But he'll never be an undisputed starter, I think.", concluded Julio "Maldini".
