Maldini's response about Asencio and his future at Real Madrid: 'It's hard for me...'

Maldini isn't afraid of opinions and talks about Asensio and his near future at Real Madrid

Julio Maldonado, better known as Maldini, is one of the most controversial journalists in Spain. However, in this regard, he seems to speak more favorably about a Real Madrid footballer toward whom he appears to have some skepticism. We are referring to Raúl Asencio, in whom, judging by his words, he doesn't seem to have faith: "Seeing him as a starter at Madrid is quite difficult for me".

This happened during a conversation where they discussed the homegrown Madrid player, who raises doubts due to his recent level. In the Club World Cup, he showed a side that very few expected and left everyone disappointed by his decisions.

"Maybe I'll have to eat my words and next season he'll play 40 matches, but that's if there are no injuries". With these words, he complemented his initial statement, and many were surprised by the fact that he doesn't trust the homegrown player.

Doesn't trust Raúl

This player was an essential piece for Ancelotti last season, when they had many defensive imbalances. The loss of Militao due to another injury to his knee was a huge blow for the Madrid defense, as was Carvajal's absence.

For this reason, the homegrown player was like a lifesaver for the Italian coach despite the terrible season the club ended up having. However, in the Club World Cup, he showed a completely different side with childish and questionable mistakes. This relegated him to the bench throughout the tournament, and when he had the chance to prove himself again, he failed spectacularly.

Alonso doesn't seem to have full confidence in him and, for this reason, Maldini's words could become reality considering the lack of decisiveness he shows. However, we know perfectly well how seasons unfold and surprises can arise at any moment.

We'll see what happens

Logically, one would think that the season will go by without any kind of defensive issues, but anything can happen and they have to be prepared. For that, Raúl has to show his best version both in training and in attitude and wait for his moment again. This is something that will surely be very difficult, but with the ideal opportunity, maybe he can prove that he can be reliable.
