Mastantuono could be left out of Real Madrid by the end of September

One of the latest great talents that Real Madrid managed to sign was the young Argentine Franco Mastantuono. Impressing Madridists and the club with his talent in the minutes he has played, the player's continuity has been threatened. This is because, according to Defensa Central, Argentina wants the player to play in the U-20 World Cup.

Since Mastantuono is only 18 years old, he can play in this tournament without any problem. The U-20 World Cup is set to begin on September 27 (27 de septiembre), just a few weeks from now. If he accepts, the Argentine would be away from Real Madrid for at least a month if he manages to reach the final.

While this is a great opportunity for the player, it is quite the opposite for Real Madrid. Xabi Alonso has a clear plan for Mastantuono and his progress within the team. Playing in the World Cup, in addition to keeping him away from Real Madrid, will put the player at risk of a possible injury or of having accumulated fatigue upon his return.

The situation with Mastantuono

Trained in River Plate's youth academy, Franco Mastantuono began to shine with the first team in January 2024. Establishing himself as one of Argentina's greatest talents, Real Madrid didn't hesitate to complete his signing.  Over the 151 minutes (151 minutos) he has played this season, the Argentine has shown remarkable progress.

His impact during this campaign has been so notable that the player was drafted by the Argentina national team. Although Mastantuono was expected to return to Valdebebas these days, plans may change. Argentina's desire to have its young star at the U-20 World Cup poses a problem for Real Madrid.

The team will have to make a decision regarding this to solve the situation with Mastantuono. The club can allow the player to play in a tournament where he could further consolidate his talent and lead his country to glory. Or, it could choose to keep him at Valdebebas so he can continue his progress and avoid putting him at risk of injury.

The national team's call

With just a few weeks left before the World Cup begins, Real Madrid's response must come soon. On September 13 (13 de septiembre), the club will have to visit Anoeta to play against Real Sociedad. A match where Mastantuono's presence or absence will be key to knowing the decision that has been made regarding Argentina's draft.
