Mastantuono is the latest, all Argentinians who have played for Real Madrid

Mastantuono raises the list of Argentinians who have worn white to 33, with names such as Di Stéfano or Di Maria

Franco Mastantuono was presented as a new Real Madrid player on the day he turned 18. The young Argentine arrived in the Spanish capital a few weeks ago and followed an individual training plan before joining the group led by Xabi Alonso.

The club confirmed its signing on June 13. “Franco Mastantuono will be a Real Madrid player for the next six seasons, from August 14, 2025 to June 30, 2031,” the club officially announced.

Mastantuono becomes the first Argentine to join the first team since Nicolás Paz in 2024. Before that, Ángel Di María was the last Argentine signing in 2010. Throughout history, Mastantuono will be the 35th Argentine player to wear the white jersey and only the fifth to move directly from River Plate.

The first was Eduardo Anzarda in 1971. Then came Oscar Más in 1973, Esteban Cambiasso in 2002, and Gonzalo Higuaín in 2007. There are also others who came from River, such as Alfredo Di Stéfano, Rogelio Domínguez, Enrique Wolff, Oscar Ruggeri, Juan Esnáider, Rolando Zárate, Santiago Solari, and Javier Saviola.

Bridge between River and Real Madrid

River Plate and Real Madrid have shared history, titles, and talent for decades. Alfredo Di Stéfano is the most iconic example. Trained at River, he became a legend at Bernabéu and a symbol of the Spanish club.

Rogelio Domínguez also left his mark at both clubs. The 1970s and 1980s brought others like Oscar Más, Eduardo Anzarda, and Enrique Wolff, who contributed hierarchy and experience. Oscar Ruggeri excelled in defense and won the affection of the Madridist fans.

With the turn of the century, the connection continued. Santiago Solari, Esteban Cambiasso, and Javier Saviola added Argentine talent to Real Madrid. Juan Esnáider and Gonzalo Higuaín strengthened the white attack, while players like Fernando Redondo, Gabriel Heinze, and Ángel Di María marked eras in midfield and defense.

Mastantuono represents the new generation. Young, talented, and with international projection, he joins the list of Argentines who left their mark at Real Madrid. His arrival keeps the bridge between “El Monumental” and Bernabéu alive.
