Medina Cantalejo Appoints a Controversial Referee for Real Betis-real Madrid

The CTA's selections for the next LaLiga matchday are already published.

After Real Madrid's victory at Reale Arena by the minimum, Carlo Ancelotti's players won't stay long at the Valdebebas Sports City. Because the training sessions these days will be focused on the match against Real Betis that will take place at Benito Villamarín Stadium on Saturday, March 1.

This match comes after the high-intensity clash experienced in the Basque Country and brings even more complications to Madrid's sports discipline. Because the fight for the LaLiga leadership is still on after the defeat at RCDE Stadium and the two consecutive draws. Those adverse results from the Madrid classic and at El Sadar have allowed their immediate pursuers to close a considerable gap of four and seven points.

Right now, Real Madrid is co-leader of LaLiga alongside FC Barcelona, leaving Atlético de Madrid just one point behind. Therefore, it's important not to fail in the upcoming matches: a defeat of their rivals could widen the gap until the end of the season. The clash at Benito Villamarín Stadium already has controversy even before it has started.

The first aspect is the red card to Antony. The Brazilian footballer, on loan from Manchester United to the green-and-white team, saw the red card in the last clash of the Seville discipline. As expected, the Betis board decided to appeal that expulsion so that the verdeamarelo striker could be present in the clash against Real Madrid.

High-Tension Match

Antony will finally be on the green of the Seville stronghold to face the white expedition, a match in which a referee who doesn't inspire very good feelings will impart justice. The CTA has chosen Alejandro Hernández Hernández to referee a key match in LaLiga, and the white fans don't have good memories of the Canary Islander.

After officiating the cup match between FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid, Medina Cantalejo's CTA places him in another match of extreme importance for Spanish soccer. As a partner in the VAR will be Víctor García Verdura, who returns after his 'neverazo' during the last LaLiga matchday due to his performance in the Atlético de Madrid-Getafe.

Not only does Real Madrid have an interest in winning this match of the top national competition. Real Betis, meanwhile, has grown in recent matchdays with the help of Antony himself and is getting closer to the European spots.

Currently occupying the seventh place, they are tied on points with a Rayo Vallecano that insists on accessing the Conference League on their own merits. Íñigo Pérez's players must not drop points in their clash against Sevilla... and hope that Real Madrid defeats Real Betis in their own stadium to aspire to even occupy one of the spots that grant access to the Europa League.
