There are several names in the squad that remain one of the biggest doubts for the white team ahead of this upcoming season. One of these key names is clearly Ferland Mendy, left-back for the white team. According to Defensa Central, the French footballer is currently training in the gym to return before the start of the league.
Obviously, this is a very important race to recover one of the most relevant players in the white squad. This is true even after the signing of Álvaro Carreras, who, in addition to being a bet for the present and future, will be the main competition for him and Fran García.
They want to recover Mendy
It is known that this French player has been essential since his arrival to the white team in 2019, when he established himself as one of the best in the world. However, since last season, when he had a spectacular performance, we haven't been able to see his best version in this last campaign. Injuries have been key in keeping him out of almost every club scheme.
In the previous season, he played a little more than 2,000 min. (2,000 minutes) in 31 matches, where he only provided two assists. This made it quite clear that he is not a relevant player for the team, which is why the player from Benfica was signed. Nevertheless, it is expected that he can return before the start of the league to contribute in his best aspect, which is defense.
Alonso knows perfectly well that any element can add to the white team and, despite his level, the Frenchman won't be an exception. However, they will have to handle his injury situation carefully with the club's new medical staff.
He has a lot to work on
For this player, it will be essential to recover part of his best level in order to establish himself as an important member of the squad. Otherwise, he will lose the race against his two Spanish competitors, who will surpass him in level. Alonso will do everything possible to recover his best version; however, it is not a priority task.
